Pier Giuseppe Pelicci

Prof. Pier Giuseppe Pelicci is Director of the Research Area and Chairman of the Department of Experimental Oncology at the IEO – European Institute of Oncology in Milan. He is also Full Professor of General Pathology at the University of Milan, President of SEMM – the European School of Molecular Medicine, and Vice President of ACC – Alleanza Contro il Cancro, a network of 28 IRCCS hospitals promoted and coordinated by the Italian Ministry of Health, committed to the development of multicenter clinical trials.

Holding a degree in Medicine, a specialization in Internal Medicine, and a PhD in Molecular Biology, he has devoted his career to research fields with a significant impact on current approaches to the treatment of cancer patients, including the identification and functional characterization of PML-RAR and mutant NPM.

More recently, his research has focused on the biological and molecular characterization of normal and cancer stem cells, on mechanisms of DNA damage, on chemoresistance in leukemia, and on obesity as a cancer risk factor.
